What mamas told me

Before I built this, I sat down with postpartum mamas and asked one question: what is the problem with getting dressed?

These are the sentences that came back, almost word for word, from woman after woman. I kept them. Every choice in this capsule is an answer to one of them.

I feel trapped in the leggings and baggy tee rut, but I want to feel like a person again.
I have a closet full of clothes but absolutely nothing to wear for a quick outing.
I feel guilty spending money on clothes for a body that might change again next month.
Nothing from my pre-pregnancy closet fits, and trying to force it on is just depressing.
It is nearly impossible to nurse in regular clothes.
I am constantly leaking or covered in spit-up.
High-waisted pants either dig into my C-section scar or roll right down under my belly.
I look in the mirror and do not recognise who is looking back at me.
Buttons, zippers and tight waistbands are painful.
To the rut, the mirror, the closet full of nothingTwo hundred outfits, decided, for every kind of workday in every season: the meeting, the day on your feet, the casual Friday, the kitchen-table day. You copy one on Sunday night and Monday is not leggings.
To the guilt, and the body that changes againStraight and wide-leg trousers with a real but forgiving waistband, wrap dresses, blazers worn open. Shapes that fit at four months and at twelve, ordinary enough to be in your wardrobe already. Buy the four that carry half the outfits, and buy them once.
To the nursing, the leaks, the scar, the waistbandsEvery top wraps, unbuttons or lifts over a cami that clips down, for the locked office at eleven with a pump in your hand. Navy and charcoal are honest about spit-up, and the pale thing nearest your face is kind to a night of four hours.
Built against every one of those sentences, for the first year back. Two hundred outfits, forty pieces, $27 once.

How it is worn

Not a flat lay on a table. A body, on the way to work, all year.

The trench on a spring Monday, the dress and slingbacks in the heat, the blazer over the knit in autumn, the longline over everything in winter. Every outfit in the guide has its own photo like these.

Outfits from all four seasons on the way to the desk, in the same six quiet colours.

Four of the two hundred

Every outfit in the guide is shown like this: laid out, then worn, with the note on why and how it opens.

Ivory and navy, the first Monday
Ivory and navy, the first Monday
Ivory knit for the cold office

Knit wrap dress with the navy blazer

Henley, pencil skirt, scarf for the cold
Henley, pencil skirt, scarf for the cold

Charcoal straight trousers, the ivory camisole, one blazer and one wrap dress carry more than half the two hundred. You do not have to own any of it: the shapes are deliberately ordinary, so you can find them in your own wardrobe and in any shop at any price. What you are buying is the arrangement, not a shopping list.

The palette

Six quiet colours and two prints that never argue with each other

Four office neutrals carry the capsule and two soft colours lift it. Any two pieces you grab at six in the morning will work, and nothing here goes out of season.

THE LIGHTSThe base
IvoryCamisole, shirt, fluid blouse, V-neck knit, cardigan. The pale thing near your face.
TaupeTrench, blazer, wide-leg, A-line skirt, wrap dress, slingbacks, tote.

The pale thing nearest your face, and the warm neutral that softens the office.

THE ANCHORSThe darks
NavyBlazer, trousers, pencil skirt, the midi dress, the henley. The anchor.
CharcoalStraight and tapered trousers, the longline blazer, the shirtdress, the V-neck.

One in every outfit, so the lights have something to sit against. Navy reads polished, charcoal reads serious.

THE COLOURSThe lift
BurgundyWrap blouse, trousers, wrap dress, cardigan, flats, the small bag. The colour.
Dusty roseThe cotton shirt. Softness for the kitchen-table days.

Burgundy for the meeting, rose for the kitchen-table day. Once in an outfit, never twice.

The one ruleKeep one dark, one mid and one pale in every outfit, and let burgundy or rose appear once, never twice. The stripe and the dots count as navy, and black is for shoes and the laptop tote only.

Run warm? The guide shows the few swaps to make, espresso for navy and rust for burgundy, and not one outfit changes. The prints: an ivory and navy stripe, and navy dots.

05Five pieces for the bridgeTights, a second camisole, a wool coat, a long-sleeved nursing tee, a flat mule: how the same wardrobe does the coldest term.
06The formulaOne dark, one mid, one pale, a blazer, a shoe you can stand in. The system underneath, so you can build the same wardrobe in black or olive exactly as well.

Built into the page

It is not a PDF you scroll once. It is a page that works for you every week.

The PDF is there for the print. The page is where you live. It reads your colouring, your shape this month and your calendar, and it stays where you left it on every screen you own.

The guide page on a monitor, a laptop and two tablets: the cool palette swap, the shape section and the planner
IF THE COLOURS ARE NOT YOURSThe same capsule, in coolSilver over gold, navy over camel? One section swaps the whole palette shade for shade. Every shape, formula and feeding rule stays exactly as it is.
FOR THE SHAPE YOU ARE NOWWhere you are carrying it this monthNot apple or pear. Through the middle, in the chest, in the hips, all over: pick the paragraph that is true this month and it tells you which of these pieces to lean on, and why. Come back when it changes.
YOUR PLANNERA week and a month, filled by youTap a day, pick an outfit from the guide, add a note (the meeting, the clinic, the handover). Walk the month forward and back. It remembers, so Sunday night takes four minutes.
PRINT OR PDFUS Letter and A4Two buttons. Your week with the outfit pictures and your notes, then your month, as two landscape pages. Save it as a PDF or stick it on the fridge.

ANAH, DRESSING YOUShow me in thisOne photograph of you, once. Then any outfit in the guide, on your body, with your face and your hair exactly as they are. Three are on the house with the Back to Work Capsule.

From me

Going back to work is not one hard day. It is a year of them, and the clothes should not be one of the hard parts.

I work from home, so I did not have a commute or a first day back. What I had instead was a wardrobe that belonged to a woman who had never been pregnant, a laptop, and a camera that went on at nine whether I was ready or not. Nothing buttoned. Everything that buttoned had to come off entirely to feed. I stood in front of that wardrobe most mornings for weeks, and it was never really about the trousers.

So I built this one from the other side. I know exactly what it is to need to look like a person from the waist up with a baby on your hip, and I have spent two years reading messages from the mamas who do leave the house: the ones with a handover to give, a last feed in the car park, and a pump to fit into a day nobody has made room for. This capsule is theirs, across the whole year, and the working from home days are in here too.

It is navy, charcoal, taupe and ivory because they are the colours an office already trusts, with burgundy and dusty rose because you are allowed to be seen. And every single piece either wraps, unbuttons or lifts over a cami that clips, because the worst thing a work wardrobe can do is make you choose between looking capable and being able to feed.

Questions

What mamas ask before they buy.

Do I have to buy the forty pieces?

No. The shapes are ordinary on purpose: a straight trouser, a blazer, a wrap dress, a cardigan, a cami that clips. Most of them are already in your wardrobe in some form. The guide tells you which four to buy first if you are buying, and what to use instead if you are not.

These are not quite my colours.

The colours are the example, not the rule. The palette sits on the office side of the fence so most women can wear it, and one section shows the few swaps to make if you run strongly warm, without losing an outfit.

Does it really work for pumping at work?

Every top wraps, unbuttons, or lifts from the hem over a camisole that clips down. Nothing goes over your head in a locked office with a pump in your hand, and every outfit note says exactly how it opens.

I work from home. Is it still for me?

Yes, and I built it from that side. There are working-from-home days in every season, and the top halves are chosen to look like a person on camera at nine with a baby just out of shot.

Can I print it?

Yes. The PDF is designed to print, and the planner prints your week and your month in US Letter or A4.

Is there a refund?

No, because the guide is delivered the moment you pay. The free Postpartum Lookbook on the home page shows you exactly how I lay outfits out, so you can see the style before you spend anything.

A year of hard mornings. The clothes should not be one of them.

One dark, one mid, one pale, and everything opens. Copy an outfit on Sunday night, and Monday is already decided.
