Tips to choose the right outfit for traveling
Traveling with an infant is like a rollercoaster ride. You can expect all sorts of ups and downs and unexpected accidents. Here are a few tips to keep in mind while traveling with a baby and managing such mishaps.
Have spare clothes
If it’s your infant’s first trip, he might throw up during take-off or landing. You can spill food on your clothes, and don’t forget the never-ending milk spots due to leakage. It is good to keep spare clothes for yourself and the baby during a flight.
Go for Nursing outfits
Nursing outfits are made for breastfeeding. The removable flaps make feeding much easier and more comfortable for moms. You can choose stylish tops, shirts or dresses according to your personal choice. Just keep style and comfort in mind before opting for traveling outfits.
Plenty of nursing lingerie
Nursing lingerie is a breastfeeding essential. It helps build a strong foundation for your clothing and provides relief to heavy breasts. You can take plenty of bras to make sure you do not have to worry about washing them. Don’t forget to pack a light, stretchable sleeping nursing bra for sound sleep. A night of comfortable sleep is a must after a long tiring day of exploring.
Design a capsule wardrobe
Before you start packing, it is good to design a capsule wardrobe for time, space, and money-saving. You can go for some neutral color nursing tops and pair them with pants, skirts, and shorts. Similarly, having a few nursing dresses is always a good idea for an evening dinner and walk on the beach.
Pick appropriate shoes
New moms always have to be on their toes. You can opt for comfortable and practical shoes as you have to carry around your infant. Snickers are a perfect option for daytime sightseeing.
Less is more
We know how you want to pack every outfit, but you have to be practical. Your luggage will already be full of baby clothes, so try to keep it light and compact.
Never underestimate the power of accessorizing. You can add belts, jewelry, and scarves to change your outlook. Instead of packing plenty of clothes, focus on accessories and creative ways to style one nursing top in different ways.
Keep prescribed medicines
New nursing moms can always have sore nipples, mastitis, or breast engorgement. You can keep ointments and prescribed pain killers for the safe side.
Ask for help
Never refrain from asking for help. Breastfeeding can be intimidating during flights. You can ask the airline crew for assistance and fellow passengers as well. If you are traveling with your spouse, make sure he shares the responsibilities. It will make your journey better planned and pleasant.
Add scarves to your outfit
Scarves add glamour and style to your outfit. There are plenty of options available for you, from airy chiffon scarves to chunky woolen ones. They are versatile, adaptable, and multi-purpose.
You can wear them for fashion or use them as a feeding cover if required.

Stock on nursing pads
Nursing pads absorb excessive milk leakage from your breast. They keep your skin dry and also prevent stains due to leakage. You can place reusable pads and wash them if needed.

The Nursing Mama Fashion Commandments
Twelve rules I wish someone had told me postpartum. Print them. Screenshot them. Live by them.
- Nursing bra always. Regular bras become instruments of pain the day letdown surprises you.
- Nursing pads on your body + a spare pair in your bag. Every single time you leave the house. No exceptions.
- Extra top in your bag — for YOU, not the baby. Because leaks, spit-up, and coffee-spills don’t care about your outfit plan.
- If it takes more than 5 minutes to figure out how to nurse or pump in it, it’s not the right outfit today. Feeding access is comfort. Comfort is not optional.
- Belt under the bust (empire) or below the belly with drape — never at the belly button. Your postpartum body deserves flattery, not compression.
- Comfortable waistband is non-negotiable. Elastic, wrap, or pull-on. Zippers are a Sunday-only luxury for now.
- Dark tones, prints, or textures — not thin light solids. Because letdown marks are real and you deserve clothes that don’t advertise them.
- Machine-washable everything. Dry-clean is not real-mama fashion. If it can’t survive a spit-up rinse, it’s not in rotation.
- Cross-body bag only. Hands stay free for the carrier, the toddler, the coffee, the door, the meltdown.
- Comfortable shoes always. You’re carrying a car seat and a diaper bag. This is not the season for a heel you can’t run in.
- Get dressed BEFORE the kids see you if you can. It changes the whole day — for them and for you.
- One accessory — earrings, a lip color, a scarf — counts as “put together.” That’s the whole game. You get to feel like yourself again.
Final words
If you are well organized and prepared, traveling can be fun. Moms should prioritize comfort over style to enjoy the trip at its best. Comfortable nursing bras, tops, dresses, and shoes are all you need to feel the best version of yourself.
