I wore a wrap dress often during my second postpartum. Its opening and adjustable tie worked for me. A true wrap may offer useful nursing access, but a faux wrap or closed lining may not; check the actual dress with your bra.
Here are ten styling ideas to try with a dress you enjoy. Choose the layers and accessories that suit your day and comfort.

The 10 outfits
Outfit 1: wrap dress + block heel + gold hoop
Try the dress with shoes and optional earrings you enjoy. Check that the wrap and any lining open far enough for feeding with your bra. Adjust the tie for current comfort; it will not guarantee a suitable fit through every body change.
Outfit 2: wrap dress + denim jacket + white sneaker
Try an open denim jacket and sneakers with the dress. Open or remove the jacket, then use the dress’s actual wrap opening. Keep loose fabric clear of your baby’s face during feeding.
Outfit 3: wrap dress + long cardigan + sneaker + tote
Try a cardigan, sneakers and a tote with the dress. Open the cardigan and wrap before positioning your baby, keeping loose fabric clear of their face. The cardigan should not enclose the baby like a private room.
Outfit 4: wrap dress + trench coat + ankle boot + crossbody
Try an opening trench over the dress with boots and a bag. Check the coat, dress and lining with your bra, and keep loose fabric and straps clear of your baby during feeding.
Outfit 5: wrap dress + tailored blazer + loafer
Try a blazer over the dress with loafers if it suits your workplace. Check the true wrap and lining with your bra or specific pump. Open or remove the blazer as needed.
Outfit 6: wrap dress + slim belt + heels
Add a belt if you like the shape, checking its pressure while seated and around any tender area. There is no universal place that avoids a healing incision. Undo it before opening the wrap and remove it whenever it makes access cumbersome.
Outfit 7: wrap dress + chambray shirt (tied at waist) + sneaker
Try a chambray shirt tied over the dress with sneakers. Untie the shirt before using the dress’s actual opening, and keep loose fabric clear of your baby’s face. Follow the care labels; no outfit is impossible to stain or damage.
Outfit 8: wrap dress (open) + white tank + jean + boot
If the wrap opens fully, you could wear it as an outer layer over a tank and jeans. The tank needs its own intended opening or a loose hem that lifts comfortably with your bra. Keep loose dress fabric clear of your baby’s face.

See the capsuleOutfit 9: wrap dress + chunky sneaker + baseball cap + tote
Try the dress with sneakers, an optional cap and a tote. Check the dress opening with your bra and keep the brim clear of your baby during feeding. If using a carrier for the outing, follow its instructions and remove your baby for a supported feed.
Outfit 10: wrap dress + linen kimono + flat sandal
Try an open linen layer over the dress with sandals if you enjoy it. Extra fabric may add warmth; remove it if needed and keep it clear of your baby’s face. The dress still needs usable access of its own.
The Nursing Mama Fashion Commandments
Twelve rules I wish someone had told me postpartum. Print them. Screenshot them. Live by them.
- Nursing bra always. Regular bras become instruments of pain the day letdown surprises you.
- Nursing pads on your body + a spare pair in your bag. Every single time you leave the house. No exceptions.
- Extra top in your bag — for YOU, not the baby. Because leaks, spit-up, and coffee-spills don’t care about your outfit plan.
- If it takes more than 5 minutes to figure out how to nurse or pump in it, it’s not the right outfit today. Feeding access is comfort. Comfort is not optional.
- Belt under the bust (empire) or below the belly with drape — never at the belly button. Your postpartum body deserves flattery, not compression.
- Comfortable waistband is non-negotiable. Elastic, wrap, or pull-on. Zippers are a Sunday-only luxury for now.
- Dark tones, prints, or textures — not thin light solids. Because letdown marks are real and you deserve clothes that don’t advertise them.
- Machine-washable everything. Dry-clean is not real-mama fashion. If it can’t survive a spit-up rinse, it’s not in rotation.
- Cross-body bag only. Hands stay free for the carrier, the toddler, the coffee, the door, the meltdown.
- Comfortable shoes always. You’re carrying a car seat and a diaper bag. This is not the season for a heel you can’t run in.
- Get dressed BEFORE the kids see you if you can. It changes the whole day — for them and for you.
- One accessory — earrings, a lip color, a scarf — counts as “put together.” That’s the whole game. You get to feel like yourself again.
A Useful Opening If It Works for You
Keep the combinations that fit comfortably and open far enough with your bra. A wrap is one option, not a required nursing silhouette.
