There’s a moment, usually in the first few weeks, when you realize half your closet doesn’t work anymore and you start looking at nursing tops. Not because of size, but because you can’t get to a breast without basically undressing. Feeding a hungry baby in a fitted crew-neck tee is a skill nobody should have to learn.
Nursing tops fix that. The good ones look like regular clothes, with a double layer, a crossover front, or a lift-up panel that gives baby quick access while keeping your tummy covered.
Here are the nursing tops I’d look at on Amazon, from easy tanks to cozy long sleeves and hoodies, all well-reviewed by other moms.
What to look for
- Access you can open with one hand: double layers, crossovers, lift-up panels or pull-aside tanks.
- Soft, stretchy fabric with some give for a bust that changes through the day.
- A length that covers your postpartum belly when you lift a layer.
- Machine washable and forgiving of milk spots and spit-up.
- Pieces that layer. A tank under a cardigan gets you through most days.
My nursing top picks
1. Smallshow Short Sleeve Nursing Tops
Smallshow is a name you’ll see a lot in nursing clothes, and these short sleeve tops are a big reason why. They look like simple tees from the outside, with a breastfeeding design that lets you feed without pulling the whole shirt up. They have nearly 11,000 reviews.
Good to know: Check the size chart against your current bust rather than ordering your pre-pregnancy size. Your bust can change a lot in the early months.
2. Nursing Tank Top with Built-in Bra
A nursing tank with a built-in bra is one of the hardest-working pieces in a postpartum wardrobe. Wear it alone at home, under a cardigan to the pediatrician, or to bed. With more than 13,000 reviews, lots of moms rely on this style.
Good to know: Built-in support is usually light. If you need more, wear your nursing bra underneath and consider sizing up.
3. Nursing Cami with Adjustable Straps
Similar idea, with adjustable straps, which matter more than you’d think when your bust changes. A cami like this is great for layering under a regular button-down or loose sweater: the top layer lifts, the cami keeps your belly covered.
Good to know: Buy two or three. Nursing tanks get leaked on, spit up on and worn daily.
4. Long Sleeve Nursing Hoodie
For cooler days, a nursing hoodie is pure comfort. This casual breastfeeding hoodie has a 4.6-star average from more than 10,000 reviews, which makes it one of the best-rated tops on this list.
Good to know: Hoodies can run warm while feeding, since baby is a little heater. Wear a light layer underneath so you can adjust.
5. Bearsland Long Sleeve Nursing Shirts (3-Pack)
A three-pack of long sleeve nursing shirts covers most of your week in one order. Long sleeves are lovely in fall and winter, and for night feeds when the house is chilly.
Good to know: Wash and try them on soon after they arrive, so you can exchange while the return window is still open.
6. Ekouaer Nursing Tops (3-Pack)
Ekouaer makes soft basics, and this three-pack of nursing tops is designed to be comfortable enough for lounging but neat enough to wear out. A good fit for moms who want a simple rotation without overthinking it.
Good to know: Soft knits can pill over time. Wash on gentle and skip high heat in the dryer.
7. Joymom Rolled Sleeve Nursing Tunic
A tunic length is a gift postpartum. It covers your hips, works with leggings, and looks a little more put-together for a lunch out. The rolled sleeves give it a relaxed, easy feel.
Good to know: Reviews are a little more mixed than for the tops above, so read the size notes carefully and keep the return window in mind.
8. Long Sleeve Nursing Cardigan Tops (3-Pack)
Lightweight cardigan-style nursing tops for layering. A cardigan is one of the easiest nursing pieces there is: open, feed, close. Pair it with a nursing cami and you have a full outfit.

Good to know: Lightweight knits work best as a layer rather than a single top in cold weather.

How to build a small nursing top rotation
You don’t need a whole new wardrobe. Most moms do well with three or four nursing tanks, two or three tees and one or two cozy layers. Wash, repeat.
Think in layers: a nursing cami underneath plus a regular loose top over it. Lift the top, pull the cami aside, and your tummy stays covered.

What to buy first, in the order to buy it.
The Order asks about your feeding, your season and your days, then gives you twelve pieces in the order they earn their place, with a picture and a shop link for each. Nothing you do not need.
Free. The list can be emailed to you so it is there in the shop.
Choose prints and mid-tones if leaks bother you. Light solids show everything.
Try a feed in any new top at home before wearing it out. One feed will tell you if the opening works for you.
Keep a spare top in the diaper bag. Between leaks and spit-up, a quick change can turn a rough outing around.
The Nursing Mama Fashion Commandments
Twelve rules I wish someone had told me postpartum. Print them. Screenshot them. Live by them.
- Nursing bra always. Regular bras become instruments of pain the day letdown surprises you.
- Nursing pads on your body + a spare pair in your bag. Every single time you leave the house. No exceptions.
- Extra top in your bag — for YOU, not the baby. Because leaks, spit-up, and coffee-spills don’t care about your outfit plan.
- If it takes more than 5 minutes to figure out how to nurse or pump in it, it’s not the right outfit today. Feeding access is comfort. Comfort is not optional.
- Belt under the bust (empire) or below the belly with drape — never at the belly button. Your postpartum body deserves flattery, not compression.
- Comfortable waistband is non-negotiable. Elastic, wrap, or pull-on. Zippers are a Sunday-only luxury for now.
- Dark tones, prints, or textures — not thin light solids. Because letdown marks are real and you deserve clothes that don’t advertise them.
- Machine-washable everything. Dry-clean is not real-mama fashion. If it can’t survive a spit-up rinse, it’s not in rotation.
- Cross-body bag only. Hands stay free for the carrier, the toddler, the coffee, the door, the meltdown.
- Comfortable shoes always. You’re carrying a car seat and a diaper bag. This is not the season for a heel you can’t run in.
- Get dressed BEFORE the kids see you if you can. It changes the whole day — for them and for you.
- One accessory — earrings, a lip color, a scarf — counts as “put together.” That’s the whole game. You get to feel like yourself again.
Feel Your Best, Give Your Best. You Matter Too.
You’re allowed to want to look like yourself while you feed your baby. Practical and pretty can live in the same shirt.
Pick a few pieces that feel good, and let that be one less thing to think about today.
You deserve to be looked after too
